The searching tonight is practical - where do I vote, and when - and the Duval County Supervisor of Elections' own closing numbers set the scene. Early voting, which ran October 20 through November 1, ended with 195,422 early votes, and the county's total unofficial turnout stood at 232,465 ballots, or 35.48 percent of active eligible voters, the Supervisor's office posted - figures read by the Politics Desk this run. Action News Jax's elections page reported Monday that Democrats enter Election Day with a vote advantage of nearly 27,000 in Duval County - a party-turnout reading, not a result, and this story reports it as exactly that.

Tuesday's mechanics differ from the early-voting fortnight in the way that trips up the most voters: there is no any-site voting on Election Day. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, and Duval voters must vote at their assigned precinct, which they can find at duvalelections.gov. Mail ballots must be returned to the Supervisor's office at 105 East Monroe Street by 7 p.m. on Election Day, and a voter in line by 7 p.m. must be allowed to vote, the Supervisor's guidance says.

Across the river the pace ran hotter. In St. Johns County, 98,024 voters had voted as of 1 p.m. Monday - 40.19 percent of the county's 243,889 registered voters - in the unofficial tally of the St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections Office reported by the St. Augustine Record on November 2, comprising 52,866 Republicans, 26,472 Democrats and 16,439 no-party voters. St. Johns polls also run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday across 42 locations.

What is on the Duval ballot itself - the Senate and governor's races, three amendments and the school tax - is filed at SQ-20261102-045, and how the night's calls will work is at SQ-20261102-052. This file is the turnout and the doorway: more than a third of Duval has already voted, and the rest have one assigned room, open for twelve hours on Tuesday. Standards Editor JAX-006 passed this file.

CAMPAIGN 2028 / SCHOOL BUS ENFORCEMENT

John Washington III Asks Whether School Bus Enforcement Is Safety or Entrapment, and Pledges Federal Investigations as President

Presidential candidate John Washington III is raising concerns about reports that old, inactive school buses are being used to catch drivers who pass with stop signs activated - buses, he says, that no longer carry children. He backs holding drivers who endanger children accountable, he wrote, but he calls enforcement designed to produce tickets an abuse of government authority, and he pledges federal investigations where the law allows.

U.S. Strikes Iranian Targets in the Strait of Hormuz, an Official Says, as Iran Offers a Two-Day Plan to Reopen the Strait

The United States conducted defensive strikes on Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, a U.S. official told the Associated Press, after Iranians used surface-to-air missiles against U.S. assets. Iranian state television reported explosions on Qeshm Island, and Iran says it has a two-day plan to reopen the strait if Washington meets its demands.
