Sheriff's Office Starts Six Months of Pedestrian and Bicyclist Enforcement Across Duval County on Tuesday
Starting Tuesday, November 3, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will run high-visibility enforcement details for bicyclist and pedestrian safety throughout Duval County through the beginning of May 2027 - an education-first effort, backed by 33 fatal pedestrian or bicyclist crashes in the county so far this year.

The enforcement starts on Election Day and runs for six months. Starting Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will conduct high-visibility enforcement details throughout Duval County to combat the dangers experienced by both bicyclists and pedestrians, the Sheriff's Office states in its official release, read by the desk this run on jaxsheriff.org. The details will run through the beginning of May 2027 and will be held in several high-traffic areas across the city.
The effort is education first, with citations behind it. Enforcement efforts will focus on educating drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists, the release states; however, violations may result in warnings or citations depending on the circumstances. The number behind the campaign is the county's own: since the start of 2026, there have been 33 fatal crashes involving pedestrians or bicyclists in Duval County - by this point in 2025, there had been 31, the Sheriff's Office states.
The money is a state safety contract: the traffic enforcement contract funding these efforts was awarded by the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the release states. The Sheriff's Office release closes with safety reminders for bicyclists and pedestrians on the roadways - the desk carries the start date, the six-month span and the 33-fatal-crash figure as the news; drivers, walkers and riders in Duval should expect to see the details in high-traffic areas from Tuesday.
