Man in His 20s Shot to Death on East 27th Street Sunday Afternoon, the Third Deadly Shooting of Jacksonville's Halloween Weekend
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a man in his 20s was shot late Sunday afternoon on East 27th Street in the Eastside, in a shooting initially reported as a domestic incident. Police were still searching for a suspect, and the briefing was the Sheriff's Office's fourth of a violent Sunday.
Jacksonville's violent Halloween weekend claimed a third life on Sunday afternoon. A man in his 20s was shot to death late Sunday afternoon on East 27th Street in the city's Eastside, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said, in an account by Action News Jax opened and read directly by the desk this run. Police were called about 5:30 p.m.
The shooting was initially reported as a domestic incident, police said at a news briefing. Officers were still searching for a suspect, and police said they were working to gather evidence, including obtaining video and speaking with witnesses. Responders provided medical care, but the man later died from his injuries, police said. No name has been released, and the desk publishes none.
The Eastside briefing was the fourth the Sheriff's Office held with the media on Sunday. Earlier in the day, police briefed the two Halloween party shootings that opened the weekend - the Arlington shooting that killed a 17-year-old girl and wounded two others, and the Durkeeville house-party shooting that killed a 20-year-old man and wounded nine more - and a separate officer-involved shooting at an apartment complex near the airport. The party shootings are the desk's published file SQ-20261101-040 and the officer-involved shooting is SQ-20261101-079; this Eastside shooting is a separate, third fatal incident.
No arrest had been reported in the Eastside shooting in the account the desk read. The Sheriff's Office has urged anyone with information about the weekend's shootings to contact it at (904) 630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org - the contact points carried in the Sheriff's Office's earlier weekend appeals.
