Woman in Her 30s Shot on Atlantic Boulevard Early Saturday; Suspect Still Unknown, Sheriff's Office Says (Jacksonville Watch News)

A woman in her 30s was shot early Saturday in the 7200 block of Atlantic Boulevard, and police have not identified a suspect, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. Officers responded around 4 a.m. to a call of reckless driving and loud music, Sgt. D. Hancock of the sheriff's office said, and patrol officers found a large group of people in the area.

As officers dispersed the group, they heard a gunshot and found the woman shot, Hancock said. She was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, and the sheriff's office said she is cooperating with the investigation. Crime scene detectives are processing the scene for evidence, and shell casings were recovered. Authorities do not know whether the victim knew the suspect, and no other businesses or residences were reported struck by gunfire.

The sheriff's office said it believes the shooting was an isolated incident. The shooting happened in the same Arlington-area stretch where residents raised concerns just the night before about late-night noise and gunfire near a bar. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 904-630-0500, email JSOCRIMETIPS@JAXSHERIFF.ORG, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
