Do Clocks Go Back This Weekend? Clocks Fall Back Tonight as Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday

Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 — the earliest date the change can fall — when clocks go back one hour to 1 a.m. Jacksonville gains an hour of sleep, and sunset on Sunday comes about an hour earlier, at 5:38 p.m. by the station's live feed.

Do Clocks Go Back This Weekend? Clocks Fall Back Tonight as Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday (Jacksonville Watch News)

It is nearly time to fall back. Daylight saving time ends every year on the first Sunday of November, and this year that is Sunday, Nov. 1 — when it hits 2 a.m. local time, clocks fall back to 1 a.m. and the hour repeats, the National Institute of Standards and Technology explained. Because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday in 2026, the change lands on the earliest date allowed under federal law. Daylight saving time began this year on March 8.

For Jacksonville, the trade is a brighter morning and a darker evening: the station's live weather feed lists Sunday's sunrise at 6:41 a.m. and sunset at 5:38 p.m. on standard time, each about an hour earlier by the clock than Saturday. Most phones and computers change themselves; ovens, microwaves and car clocks are the ones to set back an hour before bed on Saturday night.

Whether this is one of the last clock changes is an open question in Washington. The House of Representatives approved the Sunshine Protection Act, which would make daylight saving time permanent and end the twice-yearly changes, but the Senate — on recess until after the midterm elections, USA Today reported — has not passed it, and the president would still have to sign it. Hawaii, most of Arizona and the U.S. territories already stay on standard time year-round. Unless Congress acts, daylight saving time returns on Sunday, March 14, 2027.
