JTA Shuts Down the Skyway Earlier Than Planned Over Staffing; No Reopening Date Announced
The Jacksonville Transportation Authority ended Skyway service on Friday morning, hours ahead of the planned Friday-evening pause, citing staffing issues. The downtown system was already scheduled to pause on Monday, Nov. 2, amid budget issues, and JTA has not said when it will run again.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority suspended its Skyway operations unexpectedly early on Friday morning, citing staffing issues. The downtown transit system was originally scheduled to pause service on Monday, Nov. 2, due to ongoing budget issues, and Skyway operations were set to pause Friday evening ahead of broader service changes taking effect Nov. 2 — but unexpected staffing shortages forced officials to close the system several hours ahead of schedule.
In an official statement, JTA said that as part of the service changes beginning Nov. 2, Skyway operations were scheduled to pause Friday evening, and that due to staffing issues, service ended Friday morning, ahead of the planned pause. At the La Villa Skyway platform, the entrance was fenced off with a notice informing riders that service would pause starting Monday, Nov. 2, and riders who use the JTA mobile app received a notification citing unexpected operational circumstances for the early closure.
The early shutdown caught at least one family mid-plan: a father and daughter who traveled to the station for a first ride on the system before its planned shutdown arrived to find it already closed. JTA has not yet announced a date for when Skyway services will resume.
