Clemson Lineman Elyjah Thurmon Stays in a Tallahassee Hospital Overnight After Injury Against Florida State
Thurmon was taken off the field on a backboard during Saturday night's game at Florida State, gave a thumbs-up on his way out, and — according to Clemson's coach — every test so far has come back positive.

Clemson offensive lineman Elyjah Thurmon will remain in a Tallahassee hospital overnight after he was injured during Saturday night's game against Florida State in Tallahassee, On3 reported in an overnight update. Thurmon was tended to on the field for several minutes, placed on a backboard and taken off on a cart while players from both teams gathered around him and took a knee. On his way out of the stadium, he raised one hand and gave a thumbs-up.
Sideline reporter Madison Fitzpatrick reported during the broadcast that Thurmon went by stretcher into an ambulance and was taken to FSU Health Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, about four miles from the stadium, with his mother at his side holding his hand. The television broadcast cut to commercial twice while he was being treated, and play-by-play voice Wes Durham described the play as a head-on collision with a Florida State linebacker toward the end of a run.
According to a report from Jackson Castellano of The Post and Courier, cited by On3, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said everything has come back positive for Thurmon at the hospital, but that he will stay overnight. No further diagnosis has been released, and this story reports only what has been confirmed: the overnight stay, the hospital destination and the coach's positive early word.
The injury stopped a game Clemson went on to win 36-24, Florida State's third straight loss, in a night game at Doak Campbell Stadium. Both benches coming onto the field for an opposing lineman was the scene Tallahassee will remember longest from it — and the thumbs-up Thurmon gave the crowd on his way to the ambulance is the update his teammates, and Florida State's, were waiting for.
