A fire damaged the Salt Life Food Shack in Fernandina Beach early Monday, the Florida Times-Union reported. The fire at the restaurant at 17 North Fletcher Avenue was reported at 6:16 a.m., and crews arrived at 6:19 a.m. to heavy flames on the second-floor northwest patio, Fernandina Beach Fire Chief Jeremy Holmes told the Times-Union.
Four employees were inside cleaning when the fire started, and all of them evacuated safely, the report said. There were no injuries. Firefighters contained the fire to the corner of the patio; the interior took water damage from a burst pipe.
The cause is under investigation and is possibly electrical, according to the report. The Fernandina Beach restaurant is closed Monday and likely for the next few days, while the chain's Jacksonville Beach and St. Augustine Beach locations are open normally. Fernandina Beach is in Nassau County, part of this station's First Coast coverage area.
