FDOT Hosts Meetings Monday and Tuesday on a Proposed Directional Median at State Road 16 and Green Acres Road (Jacksonville Watch News)

Drivers who use State Road 16 west of St. Augustine get their say this week on a proposed change at Green Acres Road. The Florida Department of Transportation is hosting public meetings Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3, to discuss median modifications at the intersection of SR 16 and Green Acres Road, the St. Augustine Record reported from an FDOT news release.

The project proposes a directional median at the intersection to enhance safety and traffic operations for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and other corridor users. Under the proposed configuration, westbound drivers on SR 16 would still turn left onto Green Acres Road, while drivers exiting Green Acres Road would be restricted to right turns onto SR 16; a U-turn option would be available approximately 500 feet east, at SR 16 and Harvest Lane. FDOT said it would require the developer to build the median to current FDOT median-opening spacing standards.

The changes are tied to a permit request from Southeast Investments Inc. to develop nearby properties for commercial use, and construction of the improvements would be fully funded by the developer at no cost to taxpayers, according to the release.

The virtual meeting is Monday, November 2, with an open house from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and a presentation and public comment period at 5:30 p.m.; registration is through nflroads.com/virtualmeetings. The in-person meeting is Tuesday, November 3, at the St. Johns County Public Library System, 1960 N. Ponce De Leon Blvd., with an open house from 4:30 to 6 p.m. followed by a presentation and public comment at 6 p.m. Written comments submitted online, by mail or by email on or before November 13 become part of the public meeting record.
